Job Description: The Tactical Communications Systems Department within the Space and Airborne Systems Center is the primary source of Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) equipment to the USAF. This team, based at Aberdeen Proving Ground, is responsible for the Architecture, Specification, Development and Analysis of Mission Critical equipment in support of Military Air Traffic Control. Some aspects of this work are classified. The System Engineering group’s activities include; 1) developing coherent product specifications from multiple disparate source documents, 2) performing analysis of signals in space, receivers and transmitters, 3) developing simulations and analyzing the performance/impact of fielded equipment, 4) managing the requirements baseline and 5) ensuring all requirements are met. We have an immediate opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer who will be responsible for providing technical leadership and direction to a multi-disciplined team of engineers developing new products and new capabilities for existing products. The product area is military grade avionics (specifically IFF). This is a non-supervisory role with a focus on technical expertise and performance. Direction is provided through consultation with management. Goals and objectives are set long term. This position holds the responsibility for developing the specific course of action for meeting those goals. Required Skills: Minimum of 8 years of experience in the specification, and realization of complex electronic military hardware and software. Complete understanding of radio, radar, or secondary radar systems. Excellent interpersonal, time management and communication skills; as well as mentoring and facilitation skills in dealing with management and technical staff. Strong judgment and decision making abilities, able to drive efforts to closure; able to effectively manage/coordinate multiple tasks and priorities. Experience in execution of a disciplined engineering processes, scope management, people development and risk and opportunity management. Experience in proposal development, particularly Engineering Change Proposal and Basis of Estimate development, and other contract deliverable artifacts. U.S. Citizenship and ability to access to US only data systems U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment. Desired Skills: Knowledge or experience with Air Traffic Control systems Working knowledge of IFF systems or products Experience in using System Engineering Tools (DOORS, Rhapsody, Simulink, Matlab) Current experience with Information Assurance Current experience with the AIMSPO and/or FAA Certification process Working experience with the development of Military equipment Past experience with production and sustainment programs Past experience with EVMS, IMS, & IMP tools for managing programs Strong team building, leadership and motivational skills Knowledge of Raytheon IPDS and Raytheon gating process Active Secret Clearance Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering or a related engineering field. Desired Education: Master’s degree in System Engineering or a related engineering field.
