Role Summary:

The Wind Turbine Controls and Electrical Systems Field Engineer will be responsible for defined work or projects. You will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply technical concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Wind Turbine Controls and Electrical Systems Field Engineer, you will:

  • Possess the ability to travel often and for extended periods (Greater than 80% travel)

  • Climb Wind Turbine Generators

  • Perform on-site analysis and troubleshooting of Wind Turbine Generator Electrical and Control Systems

  • Perform on-site analysis and troubleshooting of Wind Farm SCADA / Wind Farm Control Systems

  • Respond to requests for emergency repairs and services to troublesome equipment

  • Have knowledge to troubleshoot and provide routine maintenance checkout for a wide range of equipment vintage

  • Develop and further expand technical knowledge and expertise of currently recognized industry standards for SCADA system maintenance

  • Maintain knowledge of applicable product line warranties, and accomplish effective warranty administration

  • Plan, prepare, and/or instruct both internal and external training programs as required, in order to impart and perpetuate field engineering and/or product knowledge in area of specialization

  • Perform administrative functions, such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, reports to customers, time sheet and expense sheets on a complete, timely, and thorough basis

  • Prepare timely and accurate technical reports for customer records and a reference for future outages

  • Maintain knowledge of the ERP system to the extent required for timely and accurate input of field information necessary

  • Provide leadership and technical direction to skilled labor performing work on customer sites

  • Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within GE safety standards

  • Prepare supportability summaries, provide input to Items of Interest, and prepare material for presentations

  • Act as prime focal point for assigned customers in product support matters

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or an Associate’s Degree in a Technical field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in field services OR a Military education with a minimum of 4 years of field service experience OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a field services role)


  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid driver's license

  • Ability and willingness to travel a minimum of 80% of the time and for extended periods of time

  • Ability and willingness to climb wind towers up to 300 feet

  • Ability to meet OSHA weight limits of 250 to 300lbs max

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics / Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • Strong business acumen and ability to sell products and services to the customer

  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision

  • Strong customer service mindset

  • Prior field engineering experience

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Prior project management experience

  • FEP (Field Engineering Program) graduate (GE Employees Only)

  • Strong project management skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Experience and familiarity with various program languages and applications, such as Java Script, XML, Visual Basic, LabView, SQL, .net, and Matlab

  • Experience and familiarity with various communication protocols and architectures such as OPC, DNP3, ModBus and EGD.

  • Experience and familiarity with both Bachmann and GE Controls Mark VIe controllers
